Adverse reactions with NEXIUM7
- In comparative clinical trials, the most frequently occurring adverse events >1% were headache and diarrhea for patients treated with NEXIUM.
- Nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, and dry mouth occurred at similar rates among patients treated with NEXIUM.
Drug interaction studies have shown that NEXIUM does not have any clinically relevant interactions with7:
- phenytoin
- warfarin
- quinidine
- clarithromycin
- amoxicillin
Postmarketing reports of changes in prothrombin measures have been received among patients on concomitant warfarin and esomeprazole therapy.30 Patients treated with proton pump inhibitors and warfarin concomitantly may need to be monitored for increases in INR and prothrombin time.
Like other proton pump inhibitors, esomeprazole may interfere with the absorption of drugs where gastric pH is an important determinant of bioavailability (eg, ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin).
Concomitant administration of esomeprazole may reduce the plasma levels of atazanavir.
